CASA ‘in the house’ with USAC Western Sprint Cars for huge Stockton 99 race. August 27th event also features USAC Western Midgets, Grand American Modifieds, and American Limited StocksBy Bobby Gerould – Stockton, CA. – 08/17/05 - …The fans win when a co-sanctioned event occurs! With that credo in mind, USAC Western Officials emerged from recent meetings with the California Asphalt Sprintcar Association (CASA) to announce that the two sanctioning bodies will join forces August 27th at Stockton 99 Speedway. The event will be race two in the Stockton 99 Sprint Car Triple Crown. The opening feature race in the trio of events was held June 25th and captured by Brian McClish of Santa Rosa, CA. The third and final leg of the Triple Crown will run Sunday September 11, 2005.

A large car count and fierce competition is the expected result as the two groups come together for the first time. “Our sport is in a tough spot presently”, said USAC Vice President of Western Operations Tommy Hunt. “Many short tracks are not making it. We as a racing community are slivered into so many different cliques that the greater good of the sport is getting lost. This race offers proof that two sanctioning bodies can find common ground.”

The progressive thinking of Hunt and CASA officials creates a virtual feast for the race fan. Joining the sprint cars will be the USAC Western Midgets, the Stockton Grand American Modifieds, and the American Limited Stocks. The sprint car and midget features will both be 50 laps on the ¼-mile paved oval.

Expected entrants include 2004 USAC Western Sprint Car Champion Tony Hunt of Lincoln, CA, along with present series points leader Kody Swanson of Kingsburg, CA. Swanson is a rookie driver who doubles as a high school student. CASA points leader and defending champion Nick Rescino Jr. was among the podium finishers in leg one of the Triple Crown. He was the lone CASA entrant at the June show. Rescino Jr., will be joined by CASA’s rookie sensation Nick Green. The son of former NARC/Golden State and Knoxville Track Champion Tim Green sits second in CASA points.

Tony Iacobitti, Scott Clough, and Jeff Gardner from the CASA ranks will battle with USAC entrants Tim Barber, Mike Murgoitio, Chris Petersen, Chuck Maddox Jr., Brian Geiszler, Brad Bumgarner, and Rick Hendrix. Lady racers Shauna Hogg, Destiney Hays, and Jessica Helberg will pilot sprint cars, while Shannon McQueen is expected to compete in the midget division.

Headlining the midget class is Robby Flock who won his 50th career USAC Western Midget feature race earlier this season. Flock will be challenged by Hunt, Bradley Galedrige, Scott Pierovich, Greg Dennett, Brain Gard, Stephen Graves, and Dallen McKenney plus many more.

The grandstands open at 3 PM, and the pit gate will swing open at 11:30 AM with registration scheduled for 1 PM.  Family pack tickets are available. For more information – please call the Speedway Office at (209) 466-9999. For USAC competition questions – phone (916) 864-8722.
