Earl Baltes book by Dave Argabright would look good on your shelf - FISHERS, Indiana - EARL!, the revealing new autobiography of Hall of Fame racing promoter Earl Baltes, will be officially released to the public on Friday, February 11, 2005. EARL! is a hardbound volume of 240 pages, containing the colorful story of the legendary builder and promoter of Ohio's Eldora Speedway. Baltes spent nearly one year with sports biographer Dave Argabright on the project, which offers revealing insights into one of the most innovative and provocative promoters of modern times. Baltes is a study in contrasts, ranging from his homespun, folksy humor to his daring, revolutionary racing events such as the World 100, the Eldora Million, and the 4-Crown Nationals. The first-person book also contains insights into many prominent racing figures over the past several decades, and provides the stories of the genesis of many of Baltes' groundbreaking promotional events. EARL! is an interesting ride through the life of the 83-year-old Baltes, up to and including his emotional decision to retire at the conclusion of the 2004 season, selling his beloved Eldora Speedway to NASCAR Nextel Cup driver Tony Stewart. The Baltes offering is Argabright's fourth book, following Still Wide Open with Brad Doty in 1999, American Scene-a collection in 2001, and Hewitt's Law with Jack Hewitt two years ago. Orders for EARL may be placed by calling (317) 631-0437, and additional information can be found on the web at www.daveargabright.com.
