Billy Sellers III
Billy Sellers III injured in sprint car crash - Placerville, CA. - March 31, 2007. HD Staff - Billy Sellers III, a two-time Placerville Speedway champion was seriously injured during the opening points race for winged 360 sprint cars. According to Bill Sullivan, spokesman for John Padjen Motorsports - promoters of the track, Sellers suffered a broken back. Sellers was flown to Sutter Hospital in Roseville, CA Saturday night shortly before 11 p.m. It took over 20-minutes to extricate Sellers from the car following a violent flip on the back chute of the quarter-mile high banked red-dirt oval. Sullivan wrote that Sellers, "was racing for the lead with race leader Andy Forsberg of Auburn on the tenth lap. Traveling down the back stretch of the speedway, Sellers drove to the outside of Forsberg as they approached the third turn, the two collided briefly, sending Sellers head on into the back stretch embankment and into a series of flips before coming to rest in the third turn of the track. The violent collision caused severe damage to the race car, the roll cage remained in tact and the extensive injuries were likely caused by the driveline of the car which came up below Sellers in the cockpit of the car, crushing the bottom portion of the seat and compressing him in the seat." ...UPDATED INFO: Sunday April 1, 2007.
