Kevin Swindell wins third straight Chili Bowl - Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (January 14, 2012) – It took a quarter of a century to crown the first back-to-back winner in Chili Bowl Nationals history. After crowning that champion last January, it only took one more year for a three-peat champion as 22-year-old Kevin Swindell of Germantown, TN, captured his third Golden Driller in a row by wiring the field in Saturday night’s 26th Annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals championship finale at the QuikTrip Center’s Tulsa Expo Raceway. And, for the second year in a row, it was Kevin taking Roger Slack’s checkered flag ahead of his father and five-time Chili Bowl king Sammy Swindell, though this time the younger Swindell needed no last corner heroics to take the top step on the podium in the feature event that was extended from 50 to 55 laps in tribute to popular Broken Arrow, OK, native and Chili Bowl competitor Donnie Ray Crawford, who lost his life in a tragic Saturday morning incident that cast a pall over the capacity crowd that numbered in excess of 17,000.

Kevin Swindell repeats at Chili Bowl champ - By Len Hayward, TULSA, Okla. (January 15, 2011) - It took 25 years for a back-to-back winner to happen at the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals, and it was only fitting that it was a Swindell to do it on the event’s Silver Anniversary. Kevin Swindell added a Silver Driller to his trophy case that will likely sit beside the Golden Driller he won in 2010, as he held off a late charge from his father and five-time Chili Bowl champ, Sammy, on the final lap to take the victory in the 50-lap main event. Sammy Swindell notched his third straight podium finish at the QuikTrip Center while hard-charging New Zealander Michael Pickens overcame an early incident to charge his way back into the third spot. Native Oklahoman Jonathan Beason finished fourth after starting Saturday night in the B Main, and Bryan Clauson, who led the race’s first 12 laps, finished fifth. Saturday’s victory marked the seventh time in 25 Chili Bowls that a Swindell has stood in victory lane but it was the first time in the history of the historic event that a winner had won in consecutive years.

Kevin Swindell owns 2010 Chili Bowl - Tulsa, OK. January 16, 2010 - Kevin Swindell, the 20 year-old son of five-time Chili Bowl champion, Sammy Swindell - won his first Chili Bowl Midget Nationals Saturday night in the jam-packed Quik Trip Center. Kevin fell back as far as sixth in the early laps of the 50-lap race, on the 1/5-mile indoor dirt track, as Cory Kruseman set a blistering pace in front. As the track conditions changed - K. Swindell started to come on strong, passing cars with relative ease. As Kevin took the lead on lap 24, Cole Whitt was never more than a few car lengths behind. Meanwhile - Sammy Swindell was dazzling fans with a drive from the rear of the pack. Sammy had to tag the rear of the field on lap 18 after a tangle. He proceeded, in the final 32 laps, to pass everyone except Whitt and his son. Jerry Coons Jr finished fourth followed by Chris Windom. For the third straight year - Windom charged from a deep starting position (20th).
