We've traveled all over California for 30 years. Here are some tips on things to eat, and things to do. We are also very picky about lodging. We'll list HammerDown! approved places to stay. Hopefully you will enjoy some of the places we've discovered...
California
Chico

- Stay at: Either the Holiday Inn (Holiday Inn 685 Manzanita Court, Local Phone: 1-530-345-2491), The Oxford Suites (Oxford Suites 2035 Business Lane (530) 899-9090 or the Best Western Heritage Inn (Best Western Heritage Inn 25 Heritage Lane (530) 894-8600) .
...Oxford Suites is the nicest place. The Holiday Inn Lounge gets cookin' after the races, making it a great place to stay and crash out.
- Jack's Family Restaurant - (540 Main Street ) A diner that is open 24 hours, with a huge menu! Great for post race eating.
Calistoga - Post race eating can be a problem in Calistoga. Plan ahead, as there is seldom anything open after 11PM that offers fresh cooked food. We've had to result to gas station mini-mart "snacks" on occasion.
- Palisades Market - This place is a favorite for lunch, with a full deli, and all the wine-and-cheesy things you'd expect to find in the heart of The wine country. The Humus Wrap is a favorite veggie delight, while the Garlic Dusted Fries work good too. Fresh baked cookies, every soda you can think of, fresh produce, and a friendly staff are all part of the deal. - Susie's Bar - Absolutely crucial in the history of Calistoga Speedway, post-race lore. Susie's was the dominant 70's "After Party" spot. 1365 Lincoln Ave Calistoga, CA 94515 (707) 942-6710

Hanford or Tulare
- Visalia Raddisson - Located about 13 miles away in Visalia. The Raddisson is a hotel located at the convention center and is head and shoulders the best place to stay in the area. Full bar, clean, pool, gym, restaurant, etc...
- DiCicco's - Excellent Italian food in Visalia. The Brushetta Tomato Bread is homemade and wonderful.
