1989

• Bobby Davis JR. is WoO Titlest, driving for Bev and Casey Luna, in the Kenny Woodruff wrenched #10. Davis also won the Kings Royal $50,000 in 1989.
• Startup sanctioning body, the United Sprint Association (USA) competed on "National" tour in direct conflict with the World of Outlaws.
• Doug Wolfgang won USA's $51,000 to win feature at Selinsgrove Speedway on September 9th, as well as the Knoxville Nationals. Wolfie was driving the Peace #8d. He won 43 races in that car in 1989.
• Jeff Gordon is USAC National Midget Rookie of the Year.

  A thrill for us was interviewing the legendary Gary Bettenhausen before he retired.

• Sammy Swindell wins the Chili Bowl midget nationals in Gary Runyon's midget.
• Stevie Smith wins the National Open in Al Hamilton's #77.
• Chuck Gurney is the USAC Silver Crown Champion, winning at DuQuoin and Springfield. He also repeated as Turkey Night winner.
• Brent Kaeding wins his 4th NARC title, and 2nd Golden State Challenge crown, in the Bob Miller #69
• Racing returns to Sacramento CA. with the Golden State 100 at Cal-Expo, won by George Snider.
• Rich Vogler wins USAC Sprint car title for 2nd time, and snags Hulman 100.
• Darrell Hanestad wins the Gold Cup
• Copper World Classic adds Silver Crown - Ken Schrader wins at Phoenix International Raceway.
• Bob Sturgill is the CSRA Grass Valley, CA. Champion. He had two clean sweeps in `89.
• Jimmy Sills is named USAC Silver Crown Rookie of the Year.
• Russ Gamester is USAC Midget Champion.
• Chuck Miller wins Kings Speedway Rebel Sprints Title.
• Rod Spencer is San Jose Speedway Track Champ.

• Joe Gaerte is the World of Outlaws Rookie of the Year
• Jack Hewitt won his 3rd Hoosier Hundred, his 3rd "4 Crown" (Silver Crown) and also drove the Merrill #5m sprint car to a Cheater's Day win in Sioux Falls, SD.
• Dan Burton wins his 2nd Silver Dollar Speedway title.
• Randy Hannagan is San Jose Speedway (CA.) Rookie of the Year.
