• Mario Andretti won on the Springfield Mile in USAC Champ Car action.
• A.J. Foyt won his 6th Hoosier Hundred.
• Gary Bettenhausen is National Sprint Car Champion.
• Jimmy Gordon wins the Gold Cup - $1,500, and his 2nd Capital Speedway Title.
