Haulmark All Star Sprint Results - Butler Motor Speedway - Sat. 6/7/03 By Scott Hall QUINCY, MI - Jeff Shepard gave car owner Bob Miller his first career All Star win Saturday night at Butler Motor Speedway in the Haulmark All Star sprint car 30 lap feature. The Miller Rigging Maxim-Kriner on Hoosier Tires team was led by crewchief Andy Potter. Shepard, who won earlier this season in Florida in the Ashworth No. 92, took over from Dean Jacobs on lap 21 and led the rest of the way. "Hats off to my crew, they picked the perfect tire. Kriner Engines, Cat Construction, Andy Potter and Bob Miller, this win is for them. We've been close to a win every night. I knew in lapped traffic when they (the leaders) got held up going into one I had to make my move or I wasn't going to make it."

The race ended just in time as Shepard's right rear was bald in victory lane. Bill Rose brought the field down to the green with Jacobs alongside. Chad Kemenah tucked in third as the green dropped and Jacobs, in the Pullins Motorsports No. 29, began to build his lead. Meanwhile Shepard, who started third, ran a steady fourth with Danny Smith fifth. Shepard was on the move by lap seven as he grabbed third, then went high on the backstretch to take second on lap 10. Shepard began reeling in Jacobs and it soon became a two car race. At the halfway mark it was Jacobs still ahead of Shepard, with Rose third, Kemenah fourth, Smith fifth and Daryn Pittman sixth. Shepard kept the pressure on Jacobs in lapped traffic, and on lap 20 Shepard went to the high groove to make a three wide pass of Jacobs and a lapped car as Jacobs got bottled up behind the backmarker. Shepard was the leader when Kelly Kinser brought out a yellow with a spin on lap 22, dropping him from ninth place to the pit area.

Lap 27 saw another caution, this one for Daryn Pittman, who stopped with engine problems, dropping him from sixth spot. It was a three lap dash to the end, but Shepard's machine was too strong for the rest of the field and he won by three car lengths. "A couple of lapped cars banged each other on the frontstretch. I had to get out of the gas for them to keep from crashing and Shepard was in the right place in the right time and beat us," Jacobs recalled of his second place run. "We were too tight at the end when the track was taking rubber," Rose recalled after his third place finish, his best finish of 2003. "This place has always bitten me with flat tires but we made it tonight." Next at the pay window were Kemenah, Smith, Ryan Coniam, Jason Johnson, Paul May, Kenny Jacobs and Greg Wilson.

The Crown Battery heat fell to Ken Mackey, the B&B Products heat went to Ryan Coniam, the Engler Machine and Tool heat was won by Chad Blonde and the TP Wings heat fell to Brett Mann. and Mark Aldrich won the Outerwears Pre-filters C Main. The United Aluminum Window Sales & Consulting B Main fell to Doug Zimmerman while Kemenah captured the Haulmark Dash. Danny Smith was the Huggins Cams Fast Time qualifier.
