All Star Sprint Results - Tulsa Speedway - Sat. 5/11/02 By John Rittenoure TULSA, OK (May 11, 2002) - Gary Wright of Hooks, Texas seems to have the winning combination at Tulsa Speedway. The 9-time O'Reilly National Championship Racing Association champion drove off the outside front row and led all 30 laps to win the All Stars verses NCRA Outlaw Sprint A feature Saturday. Wright, who won the All Star/NCRA event here last August, picked up $5,000 for his 74th career victory over a 35-car field from 14 states.
Wright was worried about tire wear but you could not tell it from the pace he set over second place finisher Bill Rose of Plainfield, Ind. "I was worried about wearing out my tires and was trying to take it easy," said Wright. "The car was good all night long. We made some changes this past week and the car was good all night long so I am tickled to death." Wright found himself in lapped traffic by lap 8 and was never challenged despite four yellow flags and one red when C.J. Johnson flipped on the front straightaway. Jeff Shepard and Mike Wagner were also involved. Rose held on to second throughout the race over Danny Smith of Danville, Ind. Jason Johnson of Eunice, LA and Kelly Kinser of Bloomington, Ind. rounded out the top five.
Travis Mize of Summers, Ark. drove away from the field to win the 12-lap outlaw sprint B feature. Mize took the lead after a lap 2 restart and by lap 6 stretched it to a full straightaway over first lap leader Rodney Duncan. Following a lap 8 red for Joe Bustillos who flipped coming off turn two, Mize resumed his lead to win over Mize and Alan Burton in third. The Crown Battery heat fell to Brooke Tatnell, the B&B Products heat went to Jason Johnson, the Engler Machine and Tool heat was won by Kenny Jacobs and the TP Wings heat fell to Dean Jacobs. Rose captured the Haulmark Dash.
