All-Star Support

The All-Stars will CO-sanction several races with the World of Outlaws this season, including the Texas Motor Speedway races March 28-29th, and the Knoxville Nationals among others. This move is great for sprint car racing as it guarantees a stout field of cars at big races.

‘The King’ Extends Hollywood Hills Winning Streak By Richard Day SAN FELIPE PUEBLO, NM (March 9) – Steve Kinser was beaming after the O’Reilly World of Outlaws Series "A" Feature at Hollywood Hills Speedway Sunday. "The King of the Outlaws" extended his winning streak to six at the facility, but he was even more proud of his son finishing in third place. "Getting a good starting spot means a lot here, especially when we start so early and the track gets some rubber down," said Kinser, who closed to within 16 points of first place in the standings. "We had a little softer tire on that I really wanted, and I just tried to keep the tires on the car. I wasn’t really going to get on the throttle until I saw someone outside of me there. I saw Craig (Dollansky) there in turn one, and I figured it was just a matter of time with how slow I was running. But even when he got in beside me, I didn’t think there was any way he could keep it up there or get by me without getting into me. "I’m just glad my son Craig ran third. It’s his first weekend out this year and he did a really good job."

Dollansky, who was also the runner-up in Saturday’s Preliminary Feature, raced wheel-to-wheel with Kinser through the first corner early in lap 14, but was unable to surge ahead. The 2000 World of Outlaws Gumout Series champion was one car-length behind when "The King of the Outlaws" took the checkered flag. Kinser earned the privilege of starting the 35-lap main event on the pole by winning his third Dash Race of the season.

He drove his #11 Quaker State Maxim into the lead as the green flag fell in the "A" Feature. The defending and 17-time O’Reilly World of Outlaws Series champion was approaching lapped traffic three laps into the race when Bud Goodwin’s car lost its nose wing in turn three, bringing out the caution flag. First Heat Race winner Shane Stewart and Jac Haudeenschild, who lost fourth place in the Dash Race in an early collision with Dollansky, passed Randy Hannagan for seventh and eighth place a lap after the green flag replaced the yellow. Brake problems on Jeremy Campbell’s #10C forced him to stop on the front straightaway late in the seventh lap, keeping the leaders out of lapped traffic again.

Kraig Kinser, who graduated from Bloomington High School South recently, started making his way toward the front of the field following the second caution. He passed Jason Sides deep in the second corner early in lap nine, then used a similar move in turn four to pass fast qualifier Brian Paulus for third place 1 ½ laps later. Sides and O’Reilly World of Outlaws Series points leader Danny Lasoski raced past Paulus in the low groove in turn two to take over fourth and fifth place early in the 15th lap.

Campbell almost ended Kinser’s streak the next time around when he spun in front of the leaders. "The King of the Outlaws" narrowly missed the spinning #10C. Kinser was five car-lengths ahead of Dollansky when he entered lapped traffic during lap 23. The leaders had a clear track ahead of them four laps later after Second Heat Race winner Joey Saldana lost 10th place by stopping in the third corner with a flat right rear tire. Aaron Berryhill, who was running 11th, also replaced his right rear tire and restarted at the back of the pack.

Dollansky was only two car-lengths behind Kinser when they caught the back-markers again with three laps remaining. Dollansky challenged for the $12,000 first prize, but was unable to drive Karavan Racing’s #7 VMAC Maxim past "The King of the Outlaws." Lasoski added two more points to his advantage in the standings lead by passing Sides deep in the fourth corner as they headed for the checkered flag. Haudenschild finished in sixth place, ahead of Stewart, Paulus, Third Heat Race winner Donny Schatz and 15th-starting Jeff Shepard. Daryn Pittman raced into 11th place from outside the 10th row and Johnny Herrera passed 12 cars to finish 12th. Paulus paced the qualifying session with a 99.382-M.P.H. lap around the semi-banked, 3/8-mile oval.

The O’Reilly World of Outlaws Series will run $51,600 events at State Fair Speedway in Oklahoma City Friday and at its birthplace – Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, TX – Saturday. WoO
