The All-Stars will CO-sanction several races with the World of Outlaws this season, including the Texas Motor Speedway races March 28-29th, and the Knoxville Nationals among others. This move is great for sprint car racing as it guarantees a stout field of cars at big races.

‘King of the Outlaws’ Dominates Texas Shootout By Richard Day BAYTOWN, TX (March 22) – Steve Kinser came within .009 seconds of recording the second clean sweep in O’Reilly World of Outlaws Series history Saturday at Houston Raceway Park. “The King of the Outlaws” dominated the Fourth Annual Texas Shootout, winning every race he entered. The defending the 17-time O’Reilly World of Outlaws Series champion passed five cars to win the Second Heat Race, three more in the First Dash Race to claim the pole in the “A” Feature and held off Craig Dollansky throughout all 30 laps for his second victory of the season.

“We got pretty loose on the bottom getting off of the corners, and I saw Craig up on the top, so I knew I had to get up there as soon as I could,” Kinser said. “We probably had a little harder tire on than we needed, but we got here and that’s the main thing.”

Mark Kinser’s 107.833-M.P.H. lap around the semi-banked, 4/10-mile oval was all that kept his cousin from a clean sweep. Sammy Swindell recorded the only clean sweep in series history on August 7, 1995, at Bridgeport Speedway in New Jersey. Kinser’s fourth “A” Feature victory in six events at Houston Raceway Park pushed him to within six points of standings leader Danny Lasoski. “We’ve been running really good this year – we’ve just had some misfortune,” Kinser said. “We cut a tire at the first race in Hanford, then had another problem in Vegas. Then, last night, we were going to be in the right place when Joey (Saldana) had a problem and we cut another one down.”

Kinser burst into the lead from the pole as the green flag fell in the O’Reilly World of Outlaws Series’ eighth main event of the season. Brooke Tatnell and Lasoski raced past Craig Keel during the first three laps as Kinser opened a comfortable advantage. “The King of the Outlaws” was a straightaway ahead of outside pole-sitter Shane Stewart when he entered lapped traffic early in the fifth lap. Dollansky passed Stewart for second place with an inside move through turn four late in lap five. Curt Trainer took the leaders out of lapped traffic the next time around when he spun in the second corner.

Lasoski, who started outside the fourth row, started racing toward the front after the caution period, passing Terry McCarl in the low groove between turns three and four. Tim Shaffer used a similar move to pass the defending Knoxville Raceway champion for fifth place late in lap 10. Kinser was a straightaway ahead of Dollansky when he caught the back-markers two laps later. Mechanical problems forced Bob Bennett to stop on the back straightaway late in lap 13, clearing the track ahead of the leaders. Dollansky chased “The King of the Outlaws” for 4 ¼ laps after the race resumed, then raced wheel-to-wheel with him through turns one and two and down the back stretch. The 2000 World of Outlaws Gumout Series champion took the lead with a slide move between the first and second corners early in lap 21, only to have Kinser drive his #11 Quaker State Maxim past him on the back straightaway. Dollansky pulled off a similar move the next time around, but Kinser surged ahead when Craig slowed behind Jeremy Campbell on the back stretch.

”I could hit the bottom coming off turn four if I really watched it, but I knew I needed to get back up top,” Kinser said. “I just couldn’t get there with the lapped cars, and then Craig got a run on me and he just happened to get stuck behind a lapped car getting off (turn) two.”

Tim Shaffer, who swept the J.D. Byrider Outlaw Nationals at Las Vegas Motor Speedway three weeks earlier, exchanged third place with Stewart three times during the final two laps. Shaffer steered the #83 Beef Packers Eagle deep in the fourth corner to claim the position, only to have Stewart come back with an inside move between turns one and two. The 1999 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year award winner regained third place with a slide move heading into the fourth corner late in the final lap. Stewart’s fourth-place finish pushed him past Saldana and Daryn Pittman into eighth place in the point standings. Dollansky threatened to take the lead in dense lapped traffic during the final five laps, but was 10 car-lengths behind Kinser when he took the checkered flag.

Lasoski finished in fifth place, ahead of 13th-starting Randy Hannagan, Tatnell, Jason Johnson, Mark Kinser and McCarl. Brian Brown, whose crew replaced the engine in the #6 Casey’s General Stores after his only qualifying lap, raced past nine cars to finish 15th in the main event.

The O’Reilly World of Outlaws Series will run a $112,145 event at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track Friday and Saturday.
