Eric Gordon owns the Little 500! - By Dick Jordan – Anderson, IN. – May 28, 2005 …Eric Gordon of Indianapolis, Ind. emerged from a late-race duel with Dave Steele to claim a record fifth consecutive victory in the 57th PayLess/Remy International "Little 500" USAC Special Event Sprint Car race Saturday night at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway. Steele, who led 141 laps of the 500-lap race on the 1/4-mile paved oval, blew an engine while leading on lap 461, relinquishing the lead to Gordon, who led the final 39 laps in his PayLess/Print Express Conpetition Welding/Gaerte. Gordon's prize money topped $31,000 as he led 181 total laps and finished five laps ahead of race runner-up Tim Cox of Park City, Ill. Tim Barber of San Francisco, Calif. took third. Defending USAC Western Sprint Car Champ Tony Hunt led 29 laps and was running third when he lost an engine on lap 412. Western Sprint veteran Shauna Hogg became the first lady driver in race history to lead the event, pacing 17 laps and finishing 10th. Pole starter Tom Fedewa finished 24th, retiring from the race after 217 laps. Tony Elliott led 32 laps but tangled with Chris Hayes on lap 255. Elliott hit the wall and Hayes crashed into a pit barrier, suffering a minor knee injury. Hayes was taken to St. John's Hospital in Anderson for treatment. Dorman Snyder and Jason McCord rounded out the "top-five" at the finish. (Summary)
Gordon scores historic 6th Little 500 victory INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 29, 2004) Eric Gordon of Indianapolis, Ind. became the first six-time winner of one of America's greatest short-track races Saturday night, winning the 56th Annual PayLess/Delco Remy "Little 500" Sprint Car classic at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway. His fourth consecutive win in the 500-lap race surpassed Bob Frey's five total race wins and tied Frey's mark of four straight wins.
Little 500 to Eric Gordon, Tony Hunt Runs Second - By Dick Jordan, Anderson, IN. 05/24/03 - ...Eric Gordon of Indianapolis, Ind. became the second 5-time winner of the famed PayLess/Delco Remy "Little 500" Sprint Car classic Saturday night at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway. He finished a lap ahead of the entire field after leading the final 151 laps of the 500-lap contest. Gordon ties Bob Frey for the record number of wins in America's richest pavement-track Sprint race, which offered a total purse of $122,000-plus. Gordon's winner's take amounted to over $36,000. Eric Gordon Wins his 4th Little 500 - By Dick Jordan, Anderson, IN. 05/25/02 ...Eric Gordon of Indianapolis, Ind. scored his fourth victory in the PayLess/Delco Remy "Little 500" Sprint Car race Saturday night with a dominating performance in the 54th running of one of America's greatest short-track races at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway. Gordon previously won the race in 1993, 1998 and 2001. He led 335 of the 500 laps around the 1/4-mile paved oval in his PayLess Supermarkets/Bowen Oldsmobile/Print Express Gaerte/Beast and finished three laps ahead of runner-up Jonathan Vennard and 11 laps in front of third-place Chet Fillip! USAC Western Sprint Car Champion Tony Hunt finished fourth in his initial "Little 500" appearance and Tony Elliott rounded lout the "top-five" at the checkered flag. (more + summary)
