Levi flies at Phoenix - By Michael Harker - Phoenix, AZ. January 21, 2006 - USAC National Sprint Car Champion Levi Jones of Olney, Ill. captured Saturday night's 30-lap USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series opener at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, Ariz. Jones led the final six laps in his Tony Stewart Racing Mopar-powered machine to beat Cory Kruseman, Darren Hagen, Damion Gardner and Danny Sheridan to the checkered flag on the 1/2-mile dirt oval. Jones's teammate, Josh Wise of Riverside, Calif., spent Saturday night at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix after flipping while leading the race on lap 14. He was held overnight for observation and was expected to be released Sunday following initial X-rays, which proved negative. Wise was attempting to lap a slower car when he hit the first-turn wall. Gardner, who posted a record 22 fast qualifying times on his way to the 2005 USAC/CRA title, opened the season as Saturday's fast qualifier. Jesse Hockett, who was the second-fastest qualifier, led 11 laps after the Wise accident, but failed to finish the 30-lap race. The USAC/CRA series resumes Feb. 4 at the Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway.

Levi Lovin’ O’Reilly Sprint Bandits “TNT” With Third Straight Win - Lonnie Wheatley – OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (August 17, 2005) – Olney, Illinois hotshoe Levi Jones has become a seemingly unstoppable force in the inaugural O’Reilly Sprint Bandits Tour ‘N Topless swing, as he picked up his third feature win in as many “TNT” events by topping Wednesday night’s 30-lap feature at State Fair Speedway. Jones battled past Dickie Gaines on the seventh round to take command then withstood a late bid from Travis Rilat to move half way to a sweep of the six-event Sprint Bandits “TNT” swing with an adept move through lapped traffic on the final round. “We came down here to try to win some races and we’re having a blast so far,” Jones commented from victory lane. “This is a great series to run for and a fun bunch of guys to run with. We’ll be up late getting the car ready for Tulsa tomorrow night so there won’t be much time for sleep, but as long as we can keep winning that’s not a problem at all.” (More)
Levi Jones lands ride with Tony Stewart Racing - By Misha Giesert - 08/16/05 - Center Line, Mich. - Team Mopar's Jay Drake will have to wait to make a run at his fifth USAC National Silver Crown Series Top-10 finish, as he'll miss this Saturday's 'Tony Bettenhausen 100' at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. Drake, who is slated to compete in an Infiniti Pro Series event at the Pikes Peak International Raceway this weekend, is unable to make the commute in time to compete in the event. Tony Stewart Racing Enterprises has selected Levi Jones to drive the No. 22 entry for this weekend's event. Jones, who won last year's 'Mopar Sprint Car Nationals' event at The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway, is a regular competitor in USAC Racing's three divisions. Currently ranked fourth in series points, Drake will return to the seat of the No. 22 Tony Stewart Racing Enterprises machine when the series resumes action on September 4 at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds in DuQuoin, Ill. He will also compete in the balance of the USAC National Silver Crown Series events for the team.
Levi Jones wears Ultimate Challenge well at Osky - By Lonnie Wheatley, OSKALOOSA, Iowa (August 9, 2005) - Illinois' Levi Jones is $30,000 richer after topping the opening leg of the O'Reilly Sprint Bandits Tour 'N Topless swing in Tuesday night's 30-lap Non-Wing Ultimate Challenge feature event at Southern Iowa Speedway. After winning the 5-lap Dash to earn the pole position for the McTwo Promotions feature event, Jones outgunned Cory Kruseman to snare the lead at the drop of the green flag. Jones led the opening circuit with Jesse Hockett, Damion Gardner and Jon Stanbrough in tow, as Kruseman slipped back to fifth. Jones immediately began to build his advantage as Stanbrough climbed to second by the fourth round. Stanbrough held down the second spot until Gardner raced into the position on the 14th lap. By the time the race's first caution flew on the 23rd lap for Bud Kaeding's stalled mount, Jones had amassed nearly a half lap lead. Three lapped cars separated Jones from Gardner on the restart, with Gardner and a resurgent Kruseman disposing of the lapped machines by the time the caution flew with just five laps remaining when Jesse Hockett surrendered a top-ten position with brake woes. Set for a five-lap dash to the checkered flag, Gardner and Kruseman made a bid for the lead as action resumed, with the trio racing three-wide off turn two on the 26th lap. Jones successfully fought off the pair to lead the way into turn three then charged to the checkered flag unabated over the final circuits aboard Scott Benic's Lucas Oil Products No. 2b Maxim. Kruseman out dueled fellow Californian Gardner for the runner-up slot, with Johnny Herrera charging from 17th to snare fourth. Jac Haudenschild rounded out the top five after defending race winner Dickie Gaines spun in turn two on the final round while challenging Herrera for fourth. (More)
