Shepard subs for Rose, wins Butler All-Stars - By Scott Hall QUINCY, MI - It was a Cinderella story Saturday night at Butler Motor Speedway. Jeff Shepard, subbing for Bill Rose, who was racing at Eldora Speedway, passed Danny Smith to win the Haulmark All Star sprint car 30 lap feature. The event was run in front of a capacity crowd and it was Shepard's first win of 2004. "Bill Rose called me and asked me to do him a favor on my way to Knoxville, to keep up his All Star owner points," Shepard stated. "I was just out there trying to knock the rust off," he said after one of the few races he has driven in this season. "We would have been satisfied with a top three finish, but to win this thing is amazing. I just paced myself until it was time to stand up in the seat at the end." (read it all)

Shepard, from his outside front row starting spot, led all the way for his fourth win of the year on the All Star tour. Luckily, the checkered flag was waving as Shepard ran out of fuel on the last lap, then a wreck blocked the track in front of his coasting machine, with Shepard scored as the winner. (more)
