All Star Sprint Results - Florence Speedway - Sat. 10/5/02 By Scott Hall UNION, KY - Shane Stewart turned in another dominating performance in the All Star sprint car season finale Saturday night at Florence Speedway. His third win of the season was worth $10,000 for a 40-lap drive in Junior Holbrook's Eagle chassis. In addition, Chad Kemenah was crowned the 2002 All Star points champion. Kemenah clinched the championship when he signed into the pits at the beginning of the evening and he finished the main in sixth. Dean Jacobs, in the Pullins Motorsports No 29, made a late charge for second with Mike Wagner finishing third.

"My crew just didn't let me down tonight," Stewart credited. "The car was almost perfect." Stewart did have a few anxious moments at the end of the race in lapped traffic. "I wasn't passing them (lapped cars) like I had been before. I didn't know if they got faster or I had slowed down. It was making me nervous."

"It was our first night in this car," Jacobs recalled of second. "We might get together and go racing next year, or we might not, we'll see what happens. This Charlie Fisher engine ran real well. We worked with the car all night to get me comfortable with it." "We started getting loose there at the end," Wagner said of this third place finish, his best showing of the season in the Clugston Lumber No 55. Wagner was on the pole for the start with Kemenah alongside and Jeff Shepard and Shane Stewart were in row two. Byron Reed and fast qualifier Kelly Kinser followed in row three.

Wagner led the first lap before Stewart got by high off turn four to lead lap two. Kemenah was third, and held that spot until Shepard got by on lap four, putting Kemenah into fourth. Kinser was now fifth. Stewart built a nice lead by lap ten as Dean Jacobs was now on the move after starting eighth in the Ray Pullins No. 29. Jacobs took fourth from Kemenah on lap 11 as the leaders entered lapped traffic. Stewart was now ahead of Wagner and Shepard, with Shepard moving alongside Wagner on lap 18 and after running side by side for a lap Shepard took over second.

Lap 22 was Shepard's undoing as he and the lapped car of Barry Ruble made contact on the backstretch. The result was Ruble hitting the wall and flipping and Shepard was left with a flat tire. Ruble was eliminated and Shepard was able to restart on the tail. For the restart, Stewart was now ahead of Wagner, Jacobs, Kemenah, Kinser and Dale Blaney. He pulled away again when the green came back out and Wagner held second as Kemenah and Jacobs battled for third. Kemenah held third by a nose on lap 27, but Jacobs got by for that spot a lap later.

Jacobs began reeling in Wagner, and following a restart on lap 37, Jacobs tried the high groove to pass Wagner on lap 38, but he could not get by. Jacobs tried the low groove on the white flag lap and gained second and that is where he finished. Wagner was third at the end with Blaney fourth and 11th starting Paul McMahan fifth. Kemenah was sixth ahead of Kinser, Danny Smith, Greg Wilson and Byron Reed.

The Crown Battery heat fell to Wilson, the B&B Products heat went to Phil Gressman, the Engler Machine and Tool heat was won by Kenny Jacobs and the TP Wings heat fell to Andrew Palker. David Waltman won the United Aluminum Window Sales & Consulting B Main and Kinser captured the Haulmark Dash. Danny Smith collided with Matt Webster in hot laps and flipped. Both drivers were okay. Kenny Jacobs also smacked the wall in hot laps, forcing him to use his backup car for the evening.
